Iceberg rings
2009 | Thoughtful Jewelry
Autodesk Softimage, 3D laser printer, plaster, *silver, gold, bronze, glass, plastic, and more!
These rings were created in response to my fondness for the delicate, beautiful icebergs that are slowly disappearing. The five rings fit together to form a miniature iceberg landscape, and are made from specific materials to mimick the fragility of icebergs and comment on the commodification of their frozen environment. The wearer chooses one of the five icebergs to wear for the day, causing a gap to form in the landscape.
Each material choice sends a different message: bronze to commemorate the impermanence of icebergs and freeze them in time, gold and silver speak to their value, glass to comment on their fragility, and plastic to signify the arctic tourist attractions visited by cruise ships each year.
