An inquiry into what the future of boating apparel and safety equipment could be. Boating laws are expected to change, and soon it will be mandatory to wear a PFD (personal flotation device) no matter what size vessel or situation.
Just as there are specific helmets to meet then needs of different situations
there are also specific PFDs (personal flotation devices) to suit different boating activities.
But what PFD exists for the fashion-conscious female recreational boater who is unlikely to go in the water?
Knowing that the number one reason amongst boaters for not wearing a PFD is linked to wearability, comfort and aesthetic, how might we create something that could encourage water enthusiasts to wear a flotation device? Instead of wearing a PFD in addition to her clothing, what if her clothing could also be her flotation device?
